Insight Dialogue Retreat 17.–24.7.2025 in Kruusila, Finland: Rosalie Dores & Ayya Anopama

Living Dharma

As human beings subject to birth, ageing, sickness and death, how can we live in a way that leads to happiness? In response to this human predicament, the Buddha taught a path leading to freedom: a Dharma that is ‘apparent’ and accessible in the ‘here and now’ of our everyday lives, and that each of us is invited to ‘come and see’ for ourselves.

This retreat will be an opportunity to take time and space, to rest and immerse in the Dharma, to ‘see’ for ourselves. We will investigate, within the immediacy of our experience, how we can live and realise the teachings in the midst of everyday life. How do we align ourselves with, attune to, and cultivate, a ‘living dharma’ which can manifest through us?

Insight Dialogue (ID) is a relational meditation practice for developing awareness and wisdom. It is designed to help us awaken together and integrate our understanding of Dharma teachings in a direct and immediate way. Supported by six Insight Dialogue guidelines, we bring kind awareness right into the heart of speaking and listening, often in pairs. Establishing these guidelines helps us to deepen our meditation while contemplating the Dharma together, allowing for experiential insight into the teachings. ID also supports the weaving of a vibrant community of Dharma friendship as we collaborate in the awakening process together. Insight Dialogue addresses the need for a practice that recognises the social and interpersonal aspects as intrinsic to awakening.

The teachings and practices we offer are based on the Buddha’s teachings. Taking part in this offering does not, however, require an adherence to Buddhism or any adaptation of personal faith. The teachings are offered in English unless otherwise specified in the retreat schedule.

An established meditation or mindfulness practice is needed to participate in the retreat.

Why take part in the retreat? What happens on a retreat?

Our practice will include periods of silent meditation and gentle movement as well as Insight Dialogue (relational meditation) in pairs and small groups. Our inquiry will be supported by contemplation topics, carefully crafted to draw forth the shared wisdom of the Sangha. There will also be periods of time in nature and for rest as well as opportunities for individual meetings with the teachers.

The retreat will be held in noble silence except for Insight Dialogue practice. Please be prepared not to use your phone or other on-line devices during the retreat to protect your practice and that of others.

The retreat includes a daily breakfast, lunch and light dinner, all vegan. Participants stay in 2-4 person rooms. The retreat will take place at the Friendship Inn, which is located in Kruusila, near Salo, on the shore of beautiful Lake Pernjärvi.
